In January 2013 I started working on my father’s life story. He talked, I listened and recorded and made notes. At the end of 2013, I met two editors from Hachette Books Ireland who asked to see the manuscript. The book was published in September 2014.
‘Conversations with my Father: Jack Kyle’ is the life story of a man who was not just an exceptionally gifted rugby player in the 1940s and 50s, but a man who dedicated his life to helping others as a surgeon in Zambia for nearly 35 years.

Hi Orla. Thank you so much for getting in touch. There is obviously a bit about rugby in the book (!!) but there are also stories about Zambia, travel, and even some poetry and literature! I look forward to reading your first and second books! Thanks again.

Thanks so much for reaching out and making yourself known to me today by following my blog. I have heard you interviewed on radio and been aware of your book for some time. I foolishly thought that as I have (whisper) zero interest in sport, it mightn’t be the book for me. but now I will search it out… it’s so much more than sport…. Looking forward to getting to know you better
